This is a gallery of images from my trip to Germany, England, and Holland. It’s random, but the intent is always the same: to create an image that engages. I had the great pleasure to travel with my Mother for part of the trip (in England). Mom introduced me to European travel many years ago and we enjoy many of the same things (in England a good cream scone with jam and Devonshire cream)….and lately she has taken up photography, so now we share that. Pictures of swans are ubiquitous, I know, but the light and color called…..and I shot. This gallery is more personal remembrance than capital P-photography, but we forget to make those shots sometimes. Try not to.

Gorgeous work. The swan images were certainly a must take. The color of the light is awesome. A wonderful collection of images from an apparently terrific trip.

Hey Wil,
Thanks for looking at the blog. Yes, when I saw the color I had to go for it.
Now I need to get back to WV so we can go shoot! Have a great week.
Keron
Yes you do!!! 🙂
You have a great week too.
Hello Keron!
The most successful image according to my sensibilities is the cathedral interior. I like the kids too, but the cathedral is one I would have made. It brings to mind Frederick Evans platinum prints of cathedrals – really exquisite images. The subtlety of color and value are delightful. And symmetry has always appealed to me, even though many find it static and boring. Symmetry in the landscape is a little more interesting because nothing is ever completely symmetrical there. So what happens is once you set up the symmetry the subject becomes the asymmetry that then begins to move around the symmetry. It is like positive and negative space interaction. Am I making sense or does it sound like babble? I shot an example over the weekend and will work it up today and post to my site. You’ll see what I mean.
Do I see the influence of my Mount Storm power plant shots? The middle one is most balanced and for me most satisfying. It is interesting to contemplate how that quiet and balance relates to the subject. I’ll have more energy related images going up in the next few weeks.
A technical question: I have been trying to get email subscription working on the Recent Work section of my site (WordPress Blog) but with no success. What are you using and how did you do it?
Mark Muse
Hi Mark!
Nice to see your comments and thank you for them! My influence (though your Mt. Storm works is fab) for the nuclear cooling towers was the concept of “cultural landscape”. It’s an idea
first brought to me by Sam Abell, and one that I think of quite often. In a nutshell, it’s the “built landscape”. That is, what we as a species contribute to a landscape. I like working with things that are not traditionally pretty and being able to photograph them in a way that has a certain beauty.
Symmetry in architectural context like the cathedral appeals to me because of how it resonates with us as humans. There is something in our DNA, our own building blocks, that recognizes a similar construction and responds. That’s why I love sacred geometry.
As to the RSS, go to your settings/reading or writing….and turn it on. I have to get out of this window to verify. I’ll email you.
All the best,
Keron
Keron,
As a non-photographer, my viewing of the images has no influence of technique, etc. I can enjoy them solely through the emotions and pleasure they bring. I cannot tell you which are my favorites, as all bring a wonderful sense of joy and happiness at gazing at each one. The colors in the swan photo are ethereal…..
Dawn Wagstaff
Hey there Dawn!
How are you? Thanks for looking at the blog. That sense of joy and happiness is the highest praise I could receive. Thank you very much. Yes, the color in the swan was what “made” me take the image. He was very cooperative with me too.
Hope to see you somewhere at a clinic….maybe Ohio?
Warmly, Keron
Keron, Wonderful pictures! I love them all. but the ceiling shot is great. I have a card with the same one, I think.Keep sending me snapshots of the world thru your eyes !! Love you.Aunt Rosie
Hi Aunt Rosie,
Thanks! The ceiling shot is in the same PLACE….but your card is of the tower in the center of the aisle. I made that shot again (newer camera, better resolution.) : )
Hope you are well and enjoying the summer. We are totally fogged in here in Seattle this morning. I like it.
love,
k
Oh, Keron! What wonderful images. I particularly enjoy the one of the horses and gentleman walking down the lane — the colors, compositon and mood are delightful. And, of course, the lavendar in bloom and the swan who seems to be gazing at his own reflection are delights. Inspiring and humbling as ever….
Hey Cathie….
: ) Thanks for poking around the blog. You are too kind.
Dominique tells me those farmer pants were the original
“blue jeans”…..he said it in French, but of course I can’t remember it.
K
how nice to have my shoes removed to travel with you…personally, of course.
bravo, keron.
Hello Friend…
: )
Where shall we go next?
I absolutely loved these photos. I miss great shots in England, because I’m so used to living there and seeing a lot of the beauty daily.
Thanks very much, Jamie. I’ll be posting more in the coming weeks as I am headed back! Can’t wait.
Cheers!
