Sam Abell - Hall of Fame Induction

Celebrating Sam Abell

on the occasion of his induction into the 2024 Class of the International Photography Hall of Fame November 1, 2024, Saint Louis, Missouri

We, your students through the years, take this opportunity to say thank you and to thank you in a tangible way by growing the scholarship funds at the Pacific Northwest Art School and the Maine Media Workshops. By giving deserving students the profound gift of your knowledge and humanity, we join you in your commitment to share your thought and practice of how to give meaning to a photograph, and how to create the Photographic Life. Thank you for being our beacon from the first days of your teaching career in 1976.

Levels:
Abell-ites $250 and above
Photographic Lifers $150 – $249
Garden Seekers: $100 – $149
Campfire Friends: $75 – $99
Serious Students: $50 – $74
Photography Lovers: $25 – $49
The time period for donations expires midnight October 31. An update email with photos from the ceremony will go out to all donors by November 3.

Dear Friends and Sam Abell students,

My name is Keron Psillas and I am writing to ask you to participate in celebrating Sam’s legacy as our teacher, mentor, and beacon in photography.

With an enormous assist from George Nobechi and Nobechi Creative, we hope to make a substantial donation to the two scholarship funds that enable students to have their photographic practice expanded by the finest education available.

As you may know, Sam is being inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame 2024 class. We thought it would be a fitting tribute to Sam to include a full page ad in the program to say “thank you and congratulations” from his many hundreds of students. The ad cost for the full page is $1,000. I am asking if you will join me in underwriting this ad (which supports all the great programs at the International Photography Hall of Fame) and contributing to his scholarship funds at the Pacific Northwest Art School photography scholarship fund and the Sam Abell Endowed Scholarship fund at the Maine Media Workshops.

The ad is designed to incorporate several levels of donations. Of course, no amount is too small or too large! We all know how much teaching has meant in Sam’s life. He has dedicated the last twenty years to workshops, tours and lectures, enriching our experience of photography as his own has continued to deepen and evolve.

As the managing director for his retrospective two-volume book set, coming out in early summer of 2025, we, Sam and I, have had many discussions about how teaching has been the catalyst for greater enjoyment and engagement in his photography. If you have heard any of his recent online or in-person talks, you will know this to be true.

The impact for us, his students, has been immeasurable. Each of you will have your own story, your own experience of this. Your help to grow those two scholarship funds will allow more student’s lives to be enriched.
