Harvest

Working in the Dry Creek Valley at Barbier Farm sets me among the vineyards. Until this time I had never been there during the harvest. The impetus to do so was the image of the grapes at the bottom. I was not satisfied with making a pretty picture of the vineyard.

Seizing the opportunity to challenge myself to photograph people, I got up early and photographed the crew as they were harvesting the Merlot.

This essay was made in the space of an hour. They worked very quickly! The challenge of capturing gesture, light, and setting was exhilarating and ultimately humbling. I’ve posted this gallery to remind myself to do it more for this is how we grow as photographers.
